SBA opening disaster assistance center
March 20, 2006
JACKSON — On March 22,
the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will
open a Disaster Loan Assistance Center in Hinds
County to assist Hurricane Katrina victims with
their applications. The center located in the
Mississippi Family Council/Catholic Charities
Building at 530 George Street in Jackson. It will
remain open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until
6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. until
further notice.
"Providing individual
help is an important part of what we do to help
people recover from a disaster," said Frank Skaggs,
director of SBA Field Operations Center - East. "We
also want to remind disaster victims, it is not
necessary to wait on the result of insurance claims
before returning your completed SBA disaster loan
application.
"For an individual with personal property and/or
home losses, a completed application will keep the
door open to other types of assistance. Those
homeowners and renters who do not return a completed
SBA application may be denying themselves other
types of assistance, including possible grants.
Even those who have
condo
insurance should call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA
(3362) and register for assistance. This call will
get interested parties referred to the agency best
able to meet their disaster-related needs.
An application may also be obtain an by calling the
SBA National Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-
2955 (for the hearing-impaired 1-800-877-8339).
The deadline for physical damage applications is
